Hi,
I am the wife of my ADD Husband. We live in New Zealand and therefore why I am asking for advice on what medications have been found that may work better than Ritalin. My husband has not taken anything since us shifting to a rural town, but he is now keen to get back on track. I have read a bit about Wellbutrin, is this a common medication? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :-) Thank you, Melita

Hi Melita:
There are many ways in which to treat ADHD symptoms other than with Ritalin. Wellbutrin is one such medication that is effectively used in many instances (that is what I use). However, everyone responds to each of these different medication options differently, and so you will want to consult closely with your doctor to pick not only the right medication, but also the dosage, which is almost as important, if not more so, than selecting which of the medication options. There are other non-medication methods that can, in some instances, help the symptoms (hard exercise is one that works for many). Melissa is about to publish a "treatment guide" that is associated with her new book on this site, that will describe the various treatment options available today. Look for it here in this next month.

Thank you George.
We are visiting the DR next week so just wanted to go with questions for him with all meds that are available that NZ may not yet know of that may be more beneficial than the Ritalin he took a couple of years ago. The Ritalin did work very well, but did not seem to have the same benefits that Wellbutrin seems to offer.
