Hi. Historically I have been bad with money matters - always going over budget, spending impulsively on food, etc. I have a budgeting spreadsheet but somehow I am still struggling with how to manage our finances. I am a housewife who does the groceries while my husband works for both of us. It is weird that someone like me who might have ADHD is managing groceries every month, but no one else can since my husband goes to work. Monthly my husband berates me for committing the same errors -- just today he got mad at me again for the same reason. He even said he does not know how to trust me now...how do I go about fixing myself around money?

It's a choice you are making

If you keep doing the same thing, you get the same results. What are you doing to change next month's outcome? It's not about the money, it's about your commitment, or lack of commitment, to doing something different. Deal in cash and think about every purchase while watching the money pile get smaller. Use a gift card with a finite amount on it and when it is empty you are on your own until next payday. Don't play the victim, YOU have to figure out how to limit your impulsive spending or you will drag the whole family down financially. Get a coach, go to therapy, do something different. You are an adult who has choices. If you do nothing, nothing will change. The situation will change once YOU commit to a new way of doing things.

I was wondering what is your goal. To spend less money? To buy less food? To decrease impulsive buying?
Avoid credit card. Avoid debit card. Avoid prepaid card. Use cash. To see something decrease in front of you gives a sense of reality (budgeting in actual & not budgeting as a goal/projection for the future).
Only buy food on sale. Only buy food that you will cook today or tomorrow. Look in the pantry/freezer & use the food to cook. Look in the refrigerator & eat/cook the food to clean the fridge.
Avoid buying what you want. Only buy what you need. Only buy when the supply runs out in the house. Only buy when the item is broken/torn. Look in the storage/closet & use it to clean/empty the storage/closet.
Frugal living is a habit. It starts with a choice. It needs to be practiced & maintained.
