Does anyone have advice on Ginkgo as a supplementary treatment? Some of the posts on this blog mention it, and I recall reading something about it briefly on an ADD newsletter I get, but haven't been able to find anything of substance. Web searches only really yield info on general memory enhancement and dementia (maybe the non-ADD spouses need to take it LOL!) and I haven't really found anything specifically related to ADD. My husband takes 18mg Concerta, and I'd like to hear any stories from people on this blog on their experiences.

My ADD husband has been taking 60mg. of ginkgo 2-3x's daily. He thought his energy levels and memory had increased. The doc told him he had heard good things about it and decreased his dose of Concerta which surprised me. At first it seemed okay but after time I realized that he was talking more, irritable and yelling about nothing important. I finally told him to get his meds tweaked but he strongly disagreed. I hope he changes his mind.
The reason he started the ginkgo was because the anti depressants he is also on cause a problem with maintaining an erection. The ginkgo does seem to help there though I'm not sure about lately, I really don't want to be anywhere near him right now...
Anyway, I found information on line when I googled Ginkgo biloba ADHD. Natural supplementation is a different school of thought from standard medication but, I have experienced a few natural solutions in other areas when a primary care doctor couldn't help me. I do my best to collect much information and proceed carefully with mostly good results. Sometime ago, my husband looked into a natural alternative with a chiropractor but the regimen was complicated and not as dramatic as Concerta. Our early trials with ginkgo are still in progress so, we'll see!
