The U-haul is packed and is towing the car. I have a long, long drive ahead. It's so bittersweet. I want and NEED to leave and I'm excited to return home, but I'm so sad to leave him behind and take our son away with me. He's a wonderful person underneath the ADHD, depression, and low self esteem. I just can't carry it all anymore. Still, I look forward to his arrival next year. I'm sure (I sure hope that) we'll be great friends and parents.

I'm glad you are headed to a healthy place. I've done that big uhaul truck with 4-point car trailor in tow across the country a few times. I thought it was bad when I just had an apartment and personal posessions, but we did that dance last year with a 5-person family out of a 3-bedroom house. You'll get through it.
I hear the bittersweet part. Though I'm totally in agreement with this situation it does pain me to hear about these ultimate consequences of long disconnect. No one necessarily at fault, just a sad occurrence. I keep thinking of that phrase you imagine old, pipe-smoking British guys with full white beards muttering, "... a bad business."
